The writers were Melvyn Chase, Jeffrey Coloper, Roger Director, Les Ericson, Gene Holstun, Sandy Landsman, Dennis Lennon, Chris Rush, Steve Skeates, Mary Skrenes, Joachim Themal, and John Zembetti. 6 Barkin, George (editor in chief), Chris Marcil, Sam Johnson (editors) National Lampoon, February/Feb. 1991, Humor Issue
New York NL Communications Inc. 1991 Magazine Very Good Small Quarto -- from 9" to 12" tall
After more than two decades, it finally occured to America's best-selling adult humour magazine that it might be a good idea to have a humor issue. The likes of Mark O'Donnell, Phil Marden, Andy Kindler, Michael Dare, Taylor Negron, Ira Miller, Gahan Wilson, David Feuer, Nick Bakay, Alan Kupperberg, Adam Kubert, Richard Sala, Chris Marcil, Sam Johnson, Glenn Wolff, Rick Meyerowitz, Dave Wielgus, Mark Walters, James Bennett, Ron Barrett, Tim Haggerty, Gilbert Gottfried, B.K. Taylor, Charles Rodrigues, Bobby London, Rick Geary, A.F. Hanford, and Ken Fisher were given cheques to inspire them to make it happen. That was nineteen years ago. The jury's still out. Cover beginning to pull a bit from top staple, moderate general.

The Best of National Lampoon #4, Beard, Henry, Michael O'Donoghue, Tony Hendra, Brian McConnachie and Sean Kelly (editors)
7 Beard, Henry, Michael O'Donoghue, Tony Hendra, Brian McConnachie and Sean Kelly (editors) The Best of National Lampoon #4
New York National Lampoon 1973 First Edition Stiff Card Wraps Very Good Quarto -- from 9.75" to 12" tall
"Vol. I, No 5 in a series of special editions published three times a year." Or, more accurately, a collection of material considered by the editors to be the best of National Lampoon's generally hilariously offensive, groundbreaking humour, published because the magazine was a gold mine, and even more money could be squeezed out of its readers if it published a regular series of 'Best of' issues. It certainly worked where I was concerned. Unpaginated, illustrated. A small handling crease to left portion of front cover, light general wear. Internally tight and clean.

11 Cobb, Irvin S. Cobb's Bill of Fare
New York George H. Doran Company 1913 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket Small Octavo -- from 7.75" to 9.75" Tall Peter Newell and James Preston
The renowned American humourist offers four essays, titled "Vittles," "Music," "Art," and "Sport." Dedicated "To R. H. Davis (Not Richard Harding -- The Other One)." "Sport is largely a point of view. A skinny youth who flits forth from a gymnasium attired in the scenario of a union suit, with a design of a winged Welsh rarebit on his chest, and runs many miles at top speed through the crowded marts of trade, is highly spoken of and has medals hung on him. If he flits forth from a hospital somewhat similarly attired, and does the same thing, the case is diagnosed as temporary insanity -- and we drape a strait-jacket on him and send for his folks. Such is the narrow margin that divides Marathon and mania; and it helps to prove that sport is mainly a state of mind." Pictorial brown boards, 148 pages, illustrated. Bumped corners, two small indentations to right corners of top edges of covers, dusty/lightly soiled edges, light general wear. Overall, an attractive copy.

New York NL Communications Inc. 1984 Magazine Very Good Small Quarto -- from 9" to 12" tall
A collection of words and pictures extolling the benefits of moderation and responsibility, by such proponents of hard work and restraint as John Bendel, Sean Kelly, Fred Graver, Kevin Curran, Gary Hallgren, Ron Hauge, Michael Di Biase, Gerald Sussman, Jack Handey, Terry Allen, John Brancato, Peter Gaffney, Rich Rosomoff, Hovik Dilakian, Gary Yealdhall, Sean Earley, Charlie Haas, T.J. Englander, Mark Mazut, Charlie Rubin, Gerald Rivera, and Michael Raab, whose cover illustration depicts a young single mother working as a rodeo slut to pay her way through pole dancing school. Of particular note to the early-to-bed/early-to-rise crowd is the article "Fun Things to Do in a Resort Town," containing such gems as "Walk up to a group of young women and ask them if they live in town. If they say yes, say, 'Oh good, then you must be whores.'" The chuckles never stop. Well, yes, they do. 90 pages. Sings of address label removal to bottom, light general wear.

Chichester Barry Rose 1994 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good About Very Good Octavo -- from 7.75" to 9.75" Tall Tom Harrison Signed by Author & Artist
"A collection of articles written by H. Grayson, humorous columnist with the 'Local Government Review' over a period of 21 years from 1971. In them Grayson turned a subversive spotlight on the more pompous elements in the central and local government establishment and on some of the bizarre decisions and utterances issuing from both during that period of unprecedented change." Illustrations by Tom Harrison, aged 11. Dust jacket illustration by Sue Harrison. This copy inscribed and signed by the author ("For Jim & Rhoda, with all/good wishes./Graham H./alias Grayson"), and signed by the illustrator. It would seem that some sort of error occurred in printing the dust jacket, since both flaps carry tipped-on copy, not the usual printed variety. Gold-stamped on black cloth, 248 pages. Three bumped corners, light scuffing to cloth. Dust jacket w/moderate edgewear, bumped corners, impressions.

These are the X-Rated 3-D Entertainment, Justice, Back to College, Collector's, Work, and Money issues (the last six issues from the 1975 calendar year). They feature work from the very top rung of the comedy ladder, charting new heights for poor taste, bad judgement and overall insensitivity. Good stuff. A variety of alcoholic self-abusers and persons of interest contributed material, among them Norman Rubington, Brian McConnachie, Chris Miller, Mark Meyerson, Gerald Sussman, Ted Mann, R. Bruce Moody, Emily Prager, Doug Kenney, Ed Subitzky, Gahan Wilson, Neal Adams, Jeff Jones, Wayne McLoughlin, P.J. O'Rourke, Peter Kleinman, Richard Helfer, Teresa Fasolino, Bobby London, Shary Flenniken, Diana Bryan, Marc Rubin, Skip Williamson, M.K. Brown, Henry Beard, Rick Meyerowitz, Vaughn Bode and Sean Kelly (there are others, but hey, I can't spend all day at this -- I have drinking to do). The July issue features the infamous cover painting of Stevie Wonder wearing 3-D glasses (which are included); the October issues features a Vaughn Bode memorial (again, I could go on, but there's drinking to be done). All issues have moderate handling wear. Nothing serious. Really. (What's that, scotch? I'm coming, I'm coming.)

Set in St. John's, Newfoundland, in 1967, this is the story of a nine-year-old boy "with a myth-making imagination," and his eccentric family. There seem to be three versions of this title: one with the major typographical error, one correcting that error (which was caught early in the game, making the corrected version by far the most common), and one missing an entire leaf. This is the first of those, containing the major error that was subsequently corrected.. Pink cloth w/yellow spine lettering, 233 pages, dust jacket illustration by Marion Stuck. Spotting to covers, light wear to corners/spine ends, thin wrinkle across top spine, dust/lightly soiled edges, small soil mark to right edge of front end paper, in dust jacket w/light wear to corners/spine ends, moderately sunned spine (common to this title), a little rubbing, a few impressions/thin scratches.

Tanned edges w/a small soil spot to bottom edge, faint soil mark to bottom edge of back cover, price impressions/smudging to top right corner of front end paper, light wear to corners/spine ends, in rubbed dust jacket w/impressions/scratches, faint sunning to spine (common with this title), small nick to top of front fold, light general wear.

New York NL Communications Inc. 1985 Magazine Very Good Small Quarto -- from 9" to 12" tall
For some odd reason, the editors of National Lampoon decided to make fun of celebrities. I can't imagine why. It's not as if they've ever done anything worth noticing. In any event, Lance Contrucci, Larry Sloman, Peter Kleimna, Tony Kisch, Adam Kubert, Gerald Sussman, Marc Taffet, Andy Simmons, Michael Simmons, John Waters, Jeff Faria, Shary Flenniken, Gahan Wilson, Josh Alan Friedman, Drew Friedman, Buddy Hickerson, Steve Brodner, Gil Eisner, Charles Rodrigues, and Bill Griffith were all given good money to make fun of people way more famous than they are. Light-hearted cover illustration by that rascal Don Ivan Punchatz depicts some vaguely familiar black guy's hair on fire. If he were white he'd look a lot like Michael Jackson, but he's black, so it's anybody's guess. 82 pages. Evidence of sticker removal to bottom of front cover, crease to bottom left corner of back cover, moderate general wear.
