Amber cloth w/white spine lettering, 362 pages, cover by Sarah Christie. Mild edgewear to dust jacket, which is now in a protective mylar sleeve. A nice unread copy. (A word about our grading: Fine -- or, sometimes, As New -- is our highest grade, and it's down from there. "Mint" is a word referring to a delightful flavour or an imposing edifice where coins are produced. It may be acceptable where baseball cards or comic books or coins and the like are concerned, but it has no place in the terminology and protocols of the book world. No place whatsoever. None. Zero.)

London Collins 1953 First Edition Hard Cover Good to Very Good Fair Duodecimo -- from 6.75" to 7.75" tall
Hammond was better known as thriller writer Hammond Innes. This one finds a young man abruptly leaving England for "a lonely ranch in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies," where "oil rigs are becoming more common than cattle," and where he hopes to find his father, until then believed killed at Dieppe during World War II. Although it has the appearance of the traditional duster, it is a story of the Canadian West in the middle of the last century, and can only be remotely considered a western, and only then because it includes ranches and cattle in the story about oilmen. adventure and romance "for and about people inspired by emotion, passion, and romance."; the book is a Farrar & Rinehart edition, but the dust jacket is a Grosset & Dunlap issue, so one of two things is presumed: a) that when they issued this title in their line Grosset & Dunlap simply printed their own dust jackets to fit the Farrar & Rinehart-published book, or b) that a previous owner married a G&D jacket to the F&R book; my guess is a); nonetheless, not always easily found in a jacket; dj illustration by Annand; edgewear, a bit of lean, moderately soiled edges, previous owner's name/address on first end paper, abrasion to bottom edge of a few pages near back; dj w/scraping/abrasions/tears to folds, edgewear, short tears, chipping/edge tears to top spine, bottom 2" of spine missing, impressions, two small brown stains to front panel;

147 Toibin, Colm The Master (signed)
Toronto McClelland & Stewart/M&S 2004 0-7710-8582-6 / 9780771085826 First Edition Hard Cover As New As New Octavo -- from 7.75" to 9.75" Tall Signed by Author
1st printing w/complete number sequence. Beginning in 1895, the novel tells the story of "five significant years" in the life of writer Henry James. This copy signed by Toibin, on title page. Grey cloth w/black spine lettering, 338 pages. An unread copy. (A few words about my grading: Fine -- or As New -- is my highest grade, and it's down from there. "Mint" is a word referring to a delightful flavour or an imposing edifice where coins are produced. It may be acceptable where baseball cards or comic books or coins and the like are concerned, but it has no legitimate place in the book world.)
