With the disappearance of a ruthless surgeon who is an expert on witchcraft, hypnotism and demonism, and who is rumoured to have performed unnecessary amputations, a bizarre chain of events begins to unfold, initiated by a medical student who goes looking for the missing doctor. Or, as a more succinct blurb on the spine has it, "A grisly tale of the murder of a mad scientist who tried to make mothers give birth to human monsters." Blue/green cloth w/skeleton illustration to front cover, black spine lettering, 376 pages, dust jacket illustration by Lynd Ward. The title page lists a frontispiece by Ward, but that was the title page for the original Farrar & Rinehart edition (1934), and was not included with this Triangle version. Laing's named is misspelled as Laign on the rear flap. A bumped corner tip, a hint of wear to corners/spine ends, dusty edges, in dust jacket w/light wear to corners/spine ends, tiny nick to top spine, a bit of surface wear. Jacket now in protective mylar sleeve. A nice copy.
