1 Stargell, Willie, and Tom Bird WILLIE STARGELL, An Autobiography (signed)
New York Harper & Row 1984 0-06-015238-9 / 9780060152383 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good Inscribed & Signed by Author
First printing w/complete number sequence. One of baseball's all-time greats tells his story. Inscribed and signed by Stargell, on front end paper. Inscription reads: "To/Quinnie/My Best/Willie Stargell". Holds appeal merely by virtue of the fact that Stargell has signed it, but if your name is Quinnie and you're a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, I'm thinkin' that you've just found your dream book (and even if your name isn't Quinnie it's a pretty nice find). Laid in is an interesting item, for an activity you might not associate with Stargell: a programme for one of the series of Eastman-Wilson Concerts performed by the Eastman Philharmonia. This one took place on Sunday, April 8, 1984, in Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory. David Effront conducted, and Willie Stargell was the guest narrator. The programme consists of two 8.5 x 11 sheets folded to produce eight pages (including covers). Information includes: an introduction; notes on the work to be performed; bios of the Philharmonia, Effron, Stargell and Joseph Schwanter, professor of composition at the Eastman School of Music; and a complete list of the members of the Eastman Philharmonia. Mustard boards, brown cloth backstrip w/gilt spine lettering, 247 pages, illustrated. Gently bumped bottom corners. Dust jacket has light edgewear and 3 short edge tears. Jacket in protective mylar sleeve.
