Suggesting that the reader might do well to get out and see some wildlife while it is still possible, "This book tells about such common species as the black duck and the bald eagle but it also tells of the almost unknown species such as sea minks, giant squids, and eastern panthers. It tells of the mystery bear of Labrador, and the come-back of the sea otters. It explains why the few surviving eastern panthers should be protected, and tells of the walrus that returned a thousand miles to its ancestral breeding grounds like the gray whales of California." The reader is taken even further afield, to Africa, Iceland, Ceylon, Burma and other places, to share in the author's adventures and experiences in the great outdoors.
