1 Weisbach, Dr. Julius, and Professor Gustav Herrmann THE MECHANICS OF HOISTING MACHINERY, including Accumulators, Excavators, and Pile-Drivers, A Text-Book for Technical Schools and a Guide for Practical Engineers
London & New York Macmillan and Co. 1893 1st UK edition Hard Cover Good to Very Good No Jacket
From the Translator's Preface: "The translation herewith presented to the engineering public has been made from Professor Herrmann's revised edition of Weisbach's great work on Engineering Mechanics. Of this work several volumes are already familiar to English readers through the translations completed successively by Messrs. Coxe, Du Bois, and Klein, and treating respectively of Theoretical Mechanics, Steam-engines and Hydraulics, and Machinery of Transmission. The present section, however, has never heretofore appeared in English print, although its great value has been recognised by all the above able translators, and by institutions of learning all over the world." Deep green cloth w/gilt spine lettering, 332 pages (including Index), illustrated. Although an ex-library title, this one isn't particularly hammered. The spine ends and corners are moderately worn, there's a library sticker to bottom spine, there's a Presentation plate affixed to the front pastedown (this was a gift the Dalhousie University Library, by Dr. M. Murphy in 1894), a library stamp on the half-title, and a return list sticker to rear pastedown. The top corner tips of the front end paper/half-title/title page are torn off (nothing serious: approximately 3/8" along top edge, the same along fore-edge), and the pages are moderately toned. The book is internally tight and clean, and certainly far, far better than the average (or even better-than-average) ex-library title. Uncommon in any condition. (C/BT)
