Saylor's fifth novel. Historical mystery set in ancient Rome. When a populist politician is murdered on the Appian Way, his political rival is accused of the crime, and it is left to Gordianus the Finder, at the command of Pompey the Great, to put his investigative skills to the test by discovering what really happened. Small impression to back cover, near gutter (about 1/4" long, about a fingernail's thickness in depth), gentle bump to top right corner of back cover. Dust jacket w/some rubbing, uneven shallow scratching, a couple of impressions to rear panel (one of which matches indentation to back cover), tiny small flaked area. An unread copy.
