Author's first novel for children, telling the story of a boy with a gift for riddles, who, with a peculiar collection of allies, "fights with a clan of evil farmers, and against their weird dogs and chain-saws, from the freedom of the wood." This copy inscribed and signed by author, on title page, thusly: "Dearest Mickey, here/is little more than a/Christmas card, with our/best love,/Antoinette/John Elsbeth/& Ben." Moat has drawn a line through his name on the title page, and signed above it. Blue cloth w/silver spine lettering, 116 pages. A bit of slant, small St. George's Cathdral stamp to front end paper, in dust jacket w/moderate wear to corners/spine ends.
