The ninth James Bond thriller, this one introducing Ernst Stavro Blofeld, leader of the rather dopey-sounding SPecial Executive for Counterintelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, which, as the acronym SPECTRE, sounds a whole lot better. There were fewer than 51,000 copies of the first edition printed, and they sold out rather quickly. Black cloth w/gilt spine lettering, blind-stamped skeletal hand to front cover, 254 pages, dust jacket illustration by Richard Chopping. Gentle bumping to corners/spine ends, tanned edges, Christmas gift inscription to previous owner on front end paper, in price-clipped dust jacket w/a bit of chipping to corners/spine ends, 1/4" tear to top left spine edge, lightly sun-darkened spine. Jacket now in mylar sleeve.
