From Simon's personal collection of 250 Star Chamber dinner accounts he has chosen "the fifty from 1567 to 1605 which cover Shakespeare's life because of the added literary interest which they obviously possess for Shakespeare scholars." He has also included a few contemporary recipes "in order to give both scholars and mere gastronomes an idea of how the various foods listed in the Accounts were cooked, prepared and served to the Lords of the Privy Council when they dined in the Star Chamber." Black cloth w/silver spine lettering, 88 pages (including index to the accounts), illustrated w/four facsimile plates of accounts. A bit of slant, small bump to bottom edge of front cover, a bit of wear to bottom edge, small dent to spine, gift inscription to previous owner, in scuffed dust jacket w/moderate edgewear, short edge tears, 3/4" tear to top right spine edge, moderately sun-darkened spine, some chipping to corners/spine ends, small impression to spine (corresponding to dent in book spine). All in all, a fairly nice copy.
